Large post-war estates have rows of similar homes, and a problem in one can spread to its neighbours. We treat the kitchen and look at the wider picture.
Rows of similar homes mean shared roof lines, adjoining walls and often matching gaps where pipes enter the building. If cockroaches are established in one house, they can use those same gaps to reach the next. That does not make anybody's housekeeping worse than another's; it is simply how connected buildings work. Pipework boxed in behind panels is a favourite route, since it is warm, dark and rarely disturbed.
On a visit we look at where you have seen them and check the usual places: behind the cooker, under the sink, around the boiler and in the bathroom. We identify the species and treat the harbourages. If neighbours are affected, we are happy to explain what to ask them and what would help the whole row. Noting the date and place of each sighting is more helpful than it sounds, and we will ask for it.
It can happen if only one home is treated, as insects disturbed by treatment may move through gaps. Where neighbours have the same problem, treating at about the same time gives better results. Ask us anything you are unsure of when we arrive.
Fix damp, store food in sealed containers, empty bins regularly and fill gaps around pipes. These steps remove what cockroaches need. We cover them during the visit as part of our free advice. We will tell you what we would expect before work begins.
They can arrive in deliveries, boxes or from neighbouring properties and settle where there is warmth, food and moisture.

On a post-war estate, pigeons find the flat roofs, balconies and walkway ledges. Making those spots unusable is what actually moves them on.
Read the advice →Post-war houses were not built with mice in mind, and they have plenty of small openings round pipes and extensions. Finding them is half the battle.
